Are
you expecting a baby in the near future? Your first priority
is a healthy baby. For most parents, the second priority is
providing a special place for the baby at home. You want to
create a cozy nursery meant JUST for your baby.
The
first question you should ask yourself is what are your specific
room dimensions? This allows you to determine what furniture
pieces needed to build that perfect cozy environment. You
want to make sure that you buy pieces that are attractive,
but also functional and pieces that will last. There are standard
cribs that have a side rail that moves up and down and may
convert to a toddler bed or daybed. The other choice is a
convertible crib that will not only turn into a toddler bed
and daybed, but will also turn into a full-size bed that they
will use until they leave the nest.
Your
parents were more than likely to have a free standing changing
table. Now, more parents are leaning towards a dresser that
is multifunctional. You use the top as a changing table when
they a small, and then remove the changing pad when you no
longer need it. Then the dresser top can hold their treasures.
If you don't have ample closet space, an armoire might be
the perfect choice or which to hang their cute little clothes.
Most can later be changed into entertainment units that hold
a television.
Do
you want a wooden glider or an over-stuffed glider in the
nursery? If so, do you want a neutral fabric or one that matches
the décor of the room? Will the chair always stay in your
child's room or will it migrate to another room in your house?
If it might move, you might want to consider a fabric that
will compliment the other furniture in your home.
Is
it a boy or is it a girl? If it is a girl, do you want to
focus on pinks, pastels or greens? If it is a boy, do you
like the primary colors, different shades of blues or how
about browns? What if you don't want to find out what gender
your baby is, and it's going to be a surprise? Do you go for
a neutral color like green, yellow or even a tan or cream?
Another question to ponder is if there a specific theme that
you want to carry out? Maybe you are dreaming about a fairytale
theme for your little princess or a cowboy for your little
buckaroo. Maybe, you don't want a theme and want to focus
on a style like modern, cottage, vintage or shabby chic. The
furniture that you choose is not the only factor in developing
your cozy nursery - there is so much more you can do with
your precious baby's special space - what fun it can be to
decorate this room!
