Hi, my name is Lauren and I have a problem! A big problem in a little package! You see, for the past few months, my Mom's tummy had been getting bigger and bigger. Then one day Mom went away for a couple days and came back with a baby! A boy baby! And he's going to stay with us forever!

Everyone's calling the baby Ethan. All he does is eat, poop, cry and sleep. Mom's with him all the time! I think he's a little pile of mush! He can't walk or talk or do anything! I tried to play catch with him. But all he did was cry when the ball hit him in the face. And then I got a time-out.

When Mom sat down to feed Ethan, I figured that was a good time talk.

"Mom" I said.

Mom didn't answer.

"Hey, Mom!" I said.

Mom still didn't answer.

"Mom! Mommy! Mommmmmmyyyyyyy!

"Wait just a minute. Can't you see the baby's crying?" Mom said.

It seemed to me that the baby was always crying. So I gave up and went to my room to play all by myself. "Why won't Mommy talk to me?" I thought. "We used to talk and play all the time until that baby came home! Now all Mom does is feed him, change him and feed him again! How can I get my Mom to pay attention to me?" Then I had an idea!

The next time Mom was feeding the baby I got a book and sat down next to her. After Ethan stopped crying I said, "Hi Mom! Do you want me to read this book to you?"

"I would love it! I liked the way you waited to talk to me until after the baby stopped crying. I can hear you much better that way!" Mom said.

I was feeling pretty smart! I figured out that Mom and I could have some quiet time while Ethan was eating. So I collected a bunch of my favorite books, some puzzles, coloring books and crayons and my electronic games. I put them in a basket right next to Mom's favorite place to sit and feed Ethan.

Maybe my problem wasn't as big as I thought! Now Mom and I look forward to our special quiet time. I even have to admit Ethan is kind of cute and I like holding him. But most of all, I learned Mom still has some time to spend with me.
