Feng Shui for February, the month of love:

Written by Shea Lynn

With Valentine's Day to celebrate this month, this is an ideal time to add a little feng shui to your bedroom, helping to bring the energy of romance into your life.

In addition to your bedroom providing a place to rest and revitalize, it also offers a nourishing space to communicate and connect with your companion. Follow these feng shui recommendations to help create a bedroom that stirs your heart.

Treat Yourself to Romantic Bedding:

Dull, ratty sheets and an untidy bed do little to help with romance. Go ahead and splurge on pillows, blankets and sheets that invite you and your partner to linger in bed. Soft, natural cottons and plush textures all work to accentuate a loving environment.

The Color of Love:

Consider the energy of the colors you’re wrapping yourself up in on a nightly basis. Warm colors like pink, peach, and creams invite love and romance. Soft shades like rose, salmon and coral can bring out the gentleness in your partner, while bold colors like scarlet, crimson and burgundy may draw out your adventurous side. Stay away from cool colors such as blues, grays, whites and blacks.

Keep the Family at Bay:

Bedroom = romance. Since your bedroom is a haven for you and your companion, the last images you should see on your bedside table are photos of dear old Mom and Dad. Children's photos, artwork and toys will also undermine your romantic life. Celebrate these relationships in other areas of your household, but keep your boudoir a private retreat. This is your relationship space.

Keep the Television Out of the Bedroom:

Nothing kills romance like the presence of computers (hmmm… I wonder if I won that item on ebay?), or the drone of late night television; they have no place in the bedroom. Apart from diverting your attention, it also acts as a third party in the room, which is not conducive to a healthy relationship. A television will not only affect your sleep, but your relationship. Television and computers are vibrant yang energy, which make it less relaxing for sleep, as well as taking attention away from your partner.

Clutter Clearing:

If you’re storing things under the bed, remove them now. All of the energy from the clothes that used to fit, and the shoes that you wish you’d never bought (but hey, they were on sale!) seep up into your mattress every single night. Get rid of the junk, allowing for good, healthy energy to flow through your bed unimpeded.

Lights Out:

Use a dimmer switch to adjust the energy accordingly. Candles are the best feng shui bedroom lighting; be sure to buy candles with no toxins and use similar color choices as recommended for bedding. Arrange candles in pairs to create the aura of a couple.

Mirrors:

Mirrors are too stimulating for the bedroom, as they speed up and energize spaces. If you must have a mirror in your room, make sure that it does not directly reflect your bed as this can cause unwelcome third-party involvement in your marriage, leading to possible infidelity and unhappiness. It is also advisable to cover mirrors with a scarf or other fabric while sleeping.

Flower Power:

The peony is the queen of flowers and is excellent for creating romance; it is also known as the Mou Tan flower, and is the principal flower symbol for love and marriage. A vase of peonies in your bedroom will help to bring about luck and romance into your marriage.

A good feng shui bedroom is one that promotes harmonious flow of both nourishing and loving energy, working to renew your spirit and create harmony at the beginning and end of each day. It is a bedroom that invites you, lures you, excites and calms you, all at the same time. It is both fun and pleasurable, whether you are there for a quick nap, a good night sleep or some Valentine romance.
